Sampoorna Bima Gram Yojana

Launched in:
  • October 2017.
Objectives :
  • To provide an insurance cover to households in rural areas, through the Post Offices.
Target Beneficiaries:
  • In each Revenue District, atleast one village (with minimum 100 households), will be selected.
  • All villages under the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana will be covered under it.
  • In each of these selected villages, it will be tried to cover all the Households.
  • Each household will be given at least one Rural Postal Life Insurance policy (RPLI).
Other Important Update (not a part of Sampoorna Bima Gram Yojana):
  • It has now been decided that benefits of PLI will no more be confined to Government and semi-Government employees, but will also be available to professionals such as Doctors, Engineers, Management Consultants, Charted Accountants, Architects, Lawyers, Bankers etc. and to employees of listed companies of NSE (National Stock Exchange) and BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange).
Postal Life Insurance (PLI).
  • An Insurance scheme under Postal India.
  • Launched in 1884.
  • It is considered as oldest insurance scheme (arguable).
  • It was started for only government employees only.
  • Now open to other selected professional groups and companies also.
Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI).
  • Provides insurance cover to people residing in rural areas, especially weaker sections and women living in rural areas.
  • Launched in 1995 on recommendations of Malhotra Committee,
  • Both RPLI and PLI have low premium and high return factors.
